Artist Statement

‘Piggy’ was the result of a 10-day workshop run by Playlab Films in Mexico, under the guidance of Pedro Costa in late 2024. Walking down the streets of Tekal de Venegas in Yucután, Mexico, I ran into Jenni. She was the only person that spoke English in the town, and for the next seven days, she invited me into her home, her family, and her memories. This unceasing kindness was the basis of this entire project. I sat around listening to her childhood dreams, her nephew's nightmares and her uncle's weekly trade as a pig farmer. Together, we began documenting these conversations and devising scenarios for us to film. 'Piggy' is a tribute to our time together, the love her family shared with me, and the imaginative spirit alive and well in Tekal de Venegas.
